At the close of 2006 the number of resort hotel rooms in Jamaica stood at approximately 15,200. By the end of 2008 however, the number of rooms would have increased considerably as a result of current construction activities in the hotel sector. These hotels will have a major impact on the national energy consumption, and every effort should be made to make them as energy efficient as possible so as to minimize consumption. In order to start the process of improving energy efficiency in the hotel sector, the PCJ intends to carry out energy audits in ten hotels during the first year of its strategic plan. Thereafter, PCJ will encourage the hotel owners to implement the recommended energy efficiency measures.
