The Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) on October 10, 2008 officially launched the Petrocaribe Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Energy Fund at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.
The Fund is a line of credit, which sees the DBJ committing US$1B for onlending to SMEs, through approved financial institutions (AFIs), to develop alternative energy initiatives. The Fund was officially launched by Prime Minister Bruce Golding who was also the main speaker at the function.
The Small and Medium Enterprise Fund seeks to assist the following entities:
- Commercial institutions, small & medium business users
- Large commercial and industrial users
- Commercial business requiring energy audits
- Energy service companies (ESCOs)
- Manufacturers of energy efficiency equipment and devices
