PCJ Hosted International Energy Symposium

A number of International Energy Executives and Professionals came to Jamaica on July 22, 2009 for the Energy Seminar “The New Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean – Global Perspective and Regional Context”.

The seminar which was hosted at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston was organized by the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), an agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mining in collaboration with the Regional Association of Oil and Natural Gas Companies in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARPEL).

Among the presenters were Chairman of the ARPEL Board of Directors Milton Costa Filho, General Manager Global Policy and Strategy (CHEVRON) Georgia Callahan, Director of Planning and Projects at the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) Nestor Luna; Energy Specialist, Energy and Climate Change Mitigation Division (OAS), Francisco Burgos; Director of Natural Resources and Infrastructure Division, Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Hugo Altomonte and Chairman, Biofuels at Venezuela’s Petrobas, Miguel Soldatelli Rossetto.

These presenters examinef a number of issues including Climate Change and Sustainability; Energy Efficiency Programmes; Biofuels Sustainability; The importance of Governmental Policies in Driving Investments; Public-private Partnerships and Investments Challenges in terms of investments required to achieve sustainable energy supply and available financing sources in a context of credit restrictions.

The activities continued on Thursday with a Chairman’s Meeting and Friday with ARPEL’s General Assembly at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montego Bay.
