The scholarship is granted
to a Jamaican national for research or other post-graduate study
(M.Phil. or
PhD.) in an energy-related field of relevance to Jamaica. It
is tenable only at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus.
The first award was made in 1985.
The award is normally made to students who have attained
a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours Degree at
the UWI or the equivalent at other accredited
universities. The award is for two (2) years with the
possibility of extension to a third year based on
recommendation and performance. Only one recipient is
awarded at a time.
The course of study or
project should be in any of the following areas:-
- Energy resource
inventory & development
- Energy technology
transfer or development
- Socio-economic and
environmental consequences of energy development
- Energy resource
economics
- Management of energy
resources and systems
Applications are made
through the University of the West Indies who
administers the scholarship. Successful candidates are
expected to serve in Jamaica for a minimum of three (3)
years.
